Peer Review Process

Each article is thoroughly reviewed by two reviewers, then by the editor-in-chief and the subject editor to ensure a high-quality output.

Acceptance of the manuscript

ENTOMOLOGIA HELLENICA operates in a single anonymized review process. All contributions are initially assessed by the Journal Manager (Editor-in-Chief) for suitability for the journal and plagiarism. Papers deemed suitable are then typically assigned to a Subject Editor and thereafter sent to a minimum of two independent expert external reviewers to assess scientific quality of the paper. The Editors are responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of articles. The Editors' decision is final. Editors are not involved in decisions about papers which they have written themselves or have been written by family members or colleagues or which relate to products or services in which the editor has an interest. Any such submission is subject to all of the journal's usual procedures, with peer review handled independently of the relevant editor and their research groups.

ENTOMOLOGIA HELLENICA does not guarantee manuscript acceptance or very short peer review process.

Publication Frequency

ENTOMOLOGIA HELLENICA is the official journal of the Hellenic Entomological Society and publishes 1 volume with two issues per year, No1 in May and No2 in November. Articles will be published as soon as they are ready, by adding them to the "current" volume's Table of Contents. Later, articles will be included collectively, as part of a new issue with its own Table of Contents.

ETHICS IN PUBLISHING

Authors should observe high standards with respect to publication ethics as set out by ESA and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Any cases of ethical misconduct are treated very seriously and will be dealt with in accordance with ESA's author misconduct policy and the COPE guidelines.

The journal may use plagiarism detection software to screen the submissions. If plagiarism is identified, the COPE guidelines on plagiarism will be followed.

To ensure objectivity and transparency in research and to ensure that accepted principles of ethical and professional conduct have been followed, authors should include information regarding sources of funding, potential conflicts of interest (financial or non-financial), informed consent if the research involved human participants, and a statement on welfare of animals if the research involved animals. Authors should include the following statements (if applicable) in a separate section entitled “Compliance with Ethical Standards” when submitting a paper: Disclosure of potential conflicts of interest Research involving Human Participants and/or Animals Informed consent.

JOURNAL POLICIES ON AUTHORSHIP AND CONTRIBUTORSHIP

ENTOMOLOGIA HELLENICA allows for multiple people to be designated as a co-corresponding author on a published article. Authors should mark the co-corresponding authors in the main document. Note that only one person can be selected as the main corresponding author in the submission system; that person will be responsible for communications during the review and production process. Authors are encouraged to include a statement of author contribution.

JOURNAL POLICIES ON APPEALS AND COMPLAINTS

The below procedure applies to appeals to editorial decisions, complaints about failure of processes such as long delays in handling papers and complaints about publication ethics. The complaint should in first instance be handled by the Editor-in-Chief(s) responsible for the journal and/or the Editor who handled the paper. If they are the subject of the complaint, please approach the in-house publishing contact (Αυτή η διεύθυνση ηλεκτρονικού ταχυδρομείου προστατεύεται από τους αυτοματισμούς αποστολέων ανεπιθύμητων μηνυμάτων. Complaint about scientific content, e.g. an appeal against rejection The Editor-in-Chief or Handling Editor considers the authors’ argument, the reviewer reports and decides whether - The decision to reject should stand; - Another independent opinion is required - The appeal should be considered. The complainant is informed of the decision with an explanation if appropriate. Decisions on appeals are final.
